Had a work conference on the Friday (where I presented to 80 people from around the world!!) and then stayed in Prague for the weekend....

So.. I on the Saturday I decided to get adventurous and went to the train station to try to find my way to this castle. Managed to get a ticket (which I promptly lost), and despite getting yelled at for not having a ticket, the journey was really easy. This castle was built by Charles IV in 1348 when Prague was the capital of Bohemia. It's huge.. and not used today.

I came across this place on the way back from the Castle... went inside out of curiosity, & because the man on the door said 'IT IS GOOD' very strongly.

But it was really cool in a bizarre way... 3 rooms full of the wierdest nativity scenes. And as if that wasn't enough, I went upstairs and this HUGE nativity scene started moving along to music with puppets and model trains.. incredible really. I left there with this big goofy smile on my face, the things you find....

On the Sunday it was raining so I explored the Jewish quarter. 80,000 Jews from prague died during the holocaust and they had some really interesting exhibitions including one which had paintings from Children when they were in concentration camps.

in the city, crammed full of hundreds of gravestones, some from over 600 years ago, falling over each other. It was fascinating.

So.. did I like it? I had a fun, hilarious, weekend, but prague itself was a bit of a disappointment. Maybe because so many people had built it up so i was expecting a lot. It is a beautiful city, but the weekend that we were there it was just filled with british tourists and was very catered to the tourists. It felt very crowded... and not really bohemian like I expected.
I'm sure there is more to the city - you may just need longer there to get away from the tourists!

There are SO many buck's night groups who go to prague for the weekend coz its cheap. So lots of drunken british men with bunny ears and hot pants throwing up in the gutter. Classy it's not.

We ended up in this 'super' club right near the bridge which was cheesy but great. There was different music on each of the 5 floors, except to get between floors you had to go up and down these stairs which were so sticky from alcohol that your feet would stick. It was actually quite difficult to walk around by the end of the night!

There were so many wierd statues. There was another one in a shopping mall of a guy riding the underside of a horse (like the horse was upside down and he wasn't).

which of course I got very excited about and ran up to see it... at which time my skirt promptly flew high in the air. This old man which had been sitting there all day waiting for this to happen screamed and pointed so EVERYBODY looked. And I had 5 mins of embarrassment as I pushed my front down only for my back to fly up and vice versa until I finally realised that i was standing on an air vent!
I ran off and crumpled in a heap... SO embarrassed.

nick and yvonne just wet themselves laughing. For HOURS. Yvonne had to go and have a lie down afterwards coz her chest was hurting so much.

I had a fantastic weekend.. but it wasn't really cultural :) As typified by us eating in a (great) mexican restaurant on the last night... struggling from tiredness after a full-on great 2 days.
